I'm Steve Volp, and I formed Online-IT-Manager.com in an effort to create an inexpensive way to provide IT management advice and direction to small businesses without causing hardship to their budgets or their bottom-line.

The solution I came up with was to create a laser-focused membership site organized around all the aspects of Managing an IT Department.

While many of you are involved in the day to day tasks of your department, you MUST find the time to do mid-range and long-range planning that can take your department from where it is now, to a more stable, smoother, more self-sustaining operation.

For some of you, the goal may be a larger organization; for others, simply a more self-sustaining operation; and for still others, it may be somewhere in the middle. For some, it may simply be the opportunity to network with other owners and managers like yourselves, allowing all the members to learn from the combined collective knowledge and experience of other members.

We aim to provide the tools and the specialized content to point you in the right direction and get you moving along the road to greater business success.

I'm Steve Volp and I wanted to give you a little background on myself, my personality, my training and my experience. The more you know about me, the better you can understand where my thoughts and opinions are coming from.

I Enjoy Business -- Regardless of any areas of business where I have specialized -- first and foremost -- I enjoy business, period.

I have been around business all my life. From early on, when my father was an executive managing businesses for others and my grandparents owned their own business -- all the way through my 30 years of business career experience.

So -- from the standpoint of Managing an IT Department -- you will be getting a 'business' prospective' from someone who knows the technology -- not an IT enthusiasts prospective on the next great gadget.

I Enjoy Helping Others With Their Businesses -- There is nothing I enjoy more than helping someone find ways to improve their business operations. While a sizable portion of my career has been spent working for others, I truly enjoy creating and being a part of growing a business. Three of the businesses I created over the years have centered around the desire to help others with their business.

I Believe In Being Prepared -- My experience has taught me that rarely does anything go as well as planned, so have your contingency plans ready -- and always be prepared for something to take longer than you thought it would.

I Believe In Continuous Improvement -- I continually attempt to improve myself, to learn new things and I truly EXPECT to learn from YOU. I know every member and user of my sites has something to offer and expect them to come prepared to share it and help others. As a matter of fact, that last thought pretty much sums up the whole basis for creating my Membership Sites -- to allow myself and other members help each other.

Here's a little background on my business career:

• I spent 9 years building an IT department from the ground up and managing the department for a large regional staffing company
• Two of the businesses I owned were a CPA practice, including business advisory services and a software development company.
• I began my career as a CPA, but I am a well rounded business professional and expanded my business expertise into other areas as well.
• Other major areas of experience and training are General Management, IT and Marketing.
• I have 30 years of business experience, split pretty evenly between working for my own businesses and working for others.
• I spent 10 years of my career working for manufacturers here in the Midwest in capacities ranging from Accounting Manager to Controller. I also was very involved with IT at most of these positions.
• I was also part-owner in a manufacturer where I was able to use all my business skills -- including management, accounting, IT and marketing.

So Finally -- Here you and I are, hoping to make a difference in the world in our own special way.

And experience and training aside, what matters most is that you find the solution or clarification you need to answer your particular question.
